Attentive observation of nature, biodynamic cultivation, unbridled biodiversity above and below the earth’s surface: Gernot and Heike Heinrich's idea of terroir wines is based on a deep understanding of the diverse living environments within their vineyards. The aim is to create a natural balance in which vines, people, plants and animals act in symbiosis and form the decisive elements of a whole. Undogmatic, handcrafted vinification gives the wines the freedom to speak of their origins in an unadulterated and clear voice. They lay the foundation for continuous evolution.
This Blaufränkisch is sourced from old vineyards on the Leithaberg slopes that face southeast toward Lake Neusiedl. The soils comprise the fossil-rich limestone, calcareous sandstone, and mica schist that are so typical for the region, adding a complex mouthfeel filled with rich mineral inputs. After ferment spontaneously, this wine undertook three weeks of maceration on the skins in wooden fermentation vats, prior aging in used 500-litre oak barrels for 25 months.
In this cuvée, Blaufränkisch displays why it is able to give us in return wines of great expression. We loved its earthy depth of peaty autumn leaves and fresh truffles, peppery spice, roasted root vegetables, ferrous and blood nuances.
