Bodegas Pigar was born back in 2014 in Campo Arcis near Valencia as the consolidation of a young couple’s dream: Juán and Susana. Over the years, Juán’s family cultivated the vines to sell to the local co-operative and always kept a little back for their own consumption. Since Juán took over as winemaker, they own 8 hectares of organic vineyards, making high-quality wines with micro vinifications from single vineyards. The labels on the bottles are designed by Susana herself.

All his wines reflect the singularity of the terroir, being all Pigar’s wines very different from the mainstream local wines. He farms organically (not certified) and applies natural winemaking practices in his tiny garage winery: indigenous yeast, no fining, no filtration, and no sulfur additions.

This Brutal comes from an old Bobal vineyard that is about 70 years old and grows on sandy soil. It’s done in stainless steel and seeks an iconoclastic counterpoint to the Bobal variety, contrary to custom: very light and fresh. After fermentation, it is blended with all the house varieties, most of them white. Pure fun!
