At Fìon we are delighted to announce the arrival of a new producer to our portfolio! And it's not other than the lady of natural wine in Utiel-Requena herself: Verónica Romero! Here, 80 kilometers west of Valencia, Romero's family has been growing vines and selling their grapes to the local cooperative. In 2019, she communicated to her family her desire to start crafting her own wines, selecting three hectares of vines, aged between 40 and 90 years old.

For Verónica, making wine in the most natural way possible was never in question. Her reds are always made with little extraction and with short maturations as she seeks elegance instead of power. Also, viticulture is her way of life, and she emphasizes the importance of being on top of things because it is only by working every day in the vineyard that she'll be able to express her terroir in the glass.

Bala Roja is made entirely with Bobal (50 to 90 years old vines). The grapes, once picked, are destemmed, crushed, and the must is fermented for 5 days with the skins. Afterwards, it is pressed and the alcoholic fermentation ends in a stainless steel tank. Then it rests and ages for 5 months in 225-litre French oak barrels. Bala Roja refers to the name Vero gave to the red tractor her grandpa used back in the day. Ferrous, mineral, bloody, great concentration of forest fruits, and a great vertical backbone that will help this wine age to the infinity and beyond.
