Rodrigo Méndez is one of the most influential producers in the Rías Baixas, where he was able to find and secure the use of ancient plantations, some of which were long-abandoned, and bring them back to life.The idea with the Bodegas Viñedos Rodrigo Méndez project was for Rodrigo to make wines that focus on the village of Meaño where Rodrigo was born, in the heart of Salnés valley of Rías Baixas.
 
O Raio da Vella is an Atlantic red made with the native Caíño (aka Tinta Femia, the father of Albariño) from a vineyard planted in Castrelo (Salnés Valley) and practically on the edge of the Atlantic Sea. An estate of only 1.5 hectares with soils composed of sand and granitic kaolin. The wine is aged on the lees for 12months in old oak resulting on a wine which is pure energy and vibrancy yet where a herbacious and iodine bouquet uplifts its character. Truly unique.
