Weingut Dorli Muhr was established in 2002 in partnership with leading Portuguese winemaker Dirk Niepoort. An early pioneer in the Carnuntum region, Dorli spotted great potential here, particularly of the magical Spitzerberg hill, and set about slowly buying up and tending old, formerly abandoned plots and planting new vines. In Carnuntum, eastern Austria, conditions are largely warm and dry, and in deciding to focus on Blaufrankisch Dorli has brought acclaim to the region and positioned her small twelve-hectare estate as arguably the finest red wine estate in Austria.

Ried Roterd lies mid-slope on the Spitzerberg hill. The upper part of the site shows the limestone soil in its very meager stony form, while the foot of the vineyard Roterd is interfused with elements of clay, which have a better capacity for storing water. Thus, the wines from Ried Roterd are always a bit fuller in body and more accessible than those harvested from higher elevations.

The spontaneous fermentation proceeds very slowly and at room temperature; the must is neither heated nor cooled. This guarantees wines that are very precise & generously aromatic. The wine matured in 1000-litre wooden casks. No new wood is utilized, in order to avoid masking the expressive fruit of the Blaufränkisch. During the approximately twenty months of maturation, the wine is racked only once and ultimately bottled without filtration.
