Relatively neutral grape variety Juhfark (literally means 'sheep tail' in Hungarian due to the grape bunch shape) is indigenous to the small wine region in the north-west Hungary - Somló, an uneroded ancient volcanic hill. In our case, the southern side of the hill provides the best Crus, due to a combination of basalt and volcanic tuff. Karoly Kolonics is one of the few producers in the entire PDO Somló who makes very high quality, authentic and artisanal wines, able to express the mineral character of the region. 6-8 hours of maceration before the native fermentation begins. All wines are barrel fermented and aged in 60-year-old Acacia and Hungarian large oak.
