Located an hour drive north from Lisbon, in the outskirts of the town of Alvorninha, 10 minutes away from the seaside, the Quinta is run by Rodrigo Felipe. In the early 2000’s, after working as a civil engineer, he decided to start making wine. He works 9 hectares of vines that belong to a total of 20 hectares of the family’s property of Quinta do Paço.

The soil here is a mix of clay and limestone, and the micro-climate benefits from the cool Atlantic breezes and the high humidity of the area which provides the grapes with a high level of natural acidity that allows Rodrigo to make bold wines that are not punchy but elegant. Organic certified since 2007, however, it won’t be until 2009 that Rodrigo made his first Humus wine. In the vineyard he uses natural compost and small quantities of copper and sulphur in powder, just when it is required. In the cellar he practices minimum intervention (no sulphites added, unfiltered and unclarified).

This Pét Nat is a rosé wine that blends two local grapes: Touriga Nacional and Castelão. It fermented spontaneously in a barrel and bottled one month later to finish the fermentation inside the bottle, thus trapping the CO2 inside. It displays a very personal character of coal, red berries, rose petals, and grapefruit. It is loaded with iodine and tense inputs too.
