In 2009, Michel Chapoutier - a renowned wine producer from the Northern Rhône, picked out a plot in the Douro Valley. A small – very small – plot of 3 hectares, but full of promise: Eleivera.
This is a field blend of white varieties - Rabigato, Gouveio, Códega do Larinho, Viosinho. Vines from the Cima Corgo planted mainly on granite sands of varying depths resulting in a wine that displays a nice taut character on the palate. One plot is composed of schist, which adds smoothness to the blend. It's fermented in stainless steel vats using the yeasts occurring naturally on the grapes and then aged in the same stainless steel vat on the fine lees for 6 months. Delicate stone-fruit and pear aromas with bodied, mineral and persistent mouthfeel.
