Curro Barreño, one half of the brilliant Ribeira Sacra project Fedellos do Couto (see our Lomba dos Ares 2020 in the shop), grew up in Gredos. He’s a childhood friend of Dani Landi, sharing many bottles together and winemaking influences. Since 2021 Curro has taken over responsibility for Dani’s vineyards in Méntrida and is making wines under the Vitícola Mentridana label. Curro is building on Dani’s meticulous foundations, interpreting the vineyards, and undertaking light extractions in the winery. Curro is happy to have come home to make wine in the area where he grew up, and to see the evolution of wines in the area which are becoming modern classics, graceful wines we love to drink.
 
El Mentridano 2021 is a high-altitude Garnacha showcasing the structure and power given by the granite soils. Whole bunch fermentation with wild yeasts in large, open-top neutral oak vats. It ages for 7 months in 3,000L and 3,700L oak foudres.
