Ribeiro is one of the oldest wine-growing areas in Spain. Its wines had a great reputation in the Middle Ages, being even the first wines to set foot in America. He is, certainly, one of the most magical artisans that are crafting wines in this area.


Jorge is the young man behind Bodegas L'Ombre. Here, he is farming old scattered and abandoned vineyards planted with the indigenous variety Sousón (a grape very difficult to be tamed as it gives a lot of color, tannin, and acidity; when those components are balanced, the result is incredibly unique). His traditional old winery was built underground in the XV century, with big granite walls that keep a constant cool temperature. Vinification is made naturally, spontaneous and slow fermentation with native yeast; resulting in elegant, rounded, mineral, and complex wines.


In the 400 years old traditional winery, which is built-in granite and buried underground, the must ferments spontaneously into small old French barrels, where it ages for a couple of years until it's ready to rest for an additional year in bottle before being released to the market. 


As expected from a Galician red, this wine is very fresh, with great linear acidity, and filled with a beautiful rustic character where the forest fruits and forest nuances (fern, eucalyptus, chestnut skins, fennel fronds, and wet soil) will seduce you forever. Good concentration in this 2015 with a lot of potential to hang around in your cellar for 5+ more years!
