After discovering the potential of the various terroirs of the Gredos granite mountains (close to Madrid), Daniel Ramos and his wife Pepi established themselves in the town of El Tiemblo where they've been making wines since 2010. A proponent of less-is-more, Daniel Ramos practices organic farming, and in the cellar, uses native yeast and slow maceration, with no filtering or fining, and with minimal addition of sulfur at bottling, resulting in wines of expression and character.
With this duo set we want to introduce you to his philosophy by tasting two truly unique and personal wines:
- Berrakin Blanco 2020 is made with the minoritary Cayetana (aka Jaen Blanco). A skin contact white wine from a very old variety, sources from high vineyards in the heart of the Gredos mountains. Vinified mostly in stainless steel to retain youthful aromatics, but with a single oak barrel for a little complexity blended in.
- El Berrakin 2022 is a slightly different take on Garnacha, for Daniel. Perhaps a more modern approach, as it's completely produced in stainless steel. The wine is a little more focused on pure, berry fruit, with a light extraction. A natural fermentation and very light pigeage, combined with natural fresh acidity, leave a very drinkable wine. A little bit of floral and herbal notes and soft tannin keeps interest on the palate. Designed to be approachable young, and to be enjoyed through the summer, perhaps chilled a little.
