X.L. Mateo's Quinta da Muradella winery is in Galicia’s least-known region: Monterrei, right on the border with Portugal. Despite the relative obscurity of both his terroirs and many grape varieties with which he works, it is no exaggeration to say that Mateo’s vineyard-driven, artisanal model of wine growing has been extremely influential in Spain. The idea of Quinta da Muradella is to produce wines that are a true reflection of the vineyard, with very little intervention in the winery.

Alanda is a coupage where the protagonist is Bastardo, an almost forgotten native variety, along with other better-known varieties such as Mencía and Garnacha. The grapes come from two small vineyards. The wine fermented with some whole clusters before being aged during 12 months in used French oak barrels and concrete, giving us a Galician wine with a Burgundian feel in return. Very limited production of only 2,600 bottles.
